The Artful Readers Club April 2013

 Before I tell you all about the book I read this month, I have just realised that today is my 3rd Anniversary as a Stampin' Up! Demonstrator.

So on to my book.

This month I read  for the Artful Readers Club

The Redemption of Alexander Seaton by S G MacLean

I didn't really know what to expect when I started the book, I got it because it was a free book on my kindle.  But I did enjoy it quite a lot, so much so, that I have already brought the sequels.

The story is set in the 1620s in the North East of Scotland.

On a wild, stormy night in Banff, Alexander is coming home from the pub, slightly the worse for wear, when he sees Patrick Davidson struggling in the street. Alexander chooses to ignore Patrick's cries for help.

Next morning, Patrick is found dead at Alexander's desk in his classroom.

Although it is a murder mystery novel, a good half of the book sets up the scene up why Alexander Seaton needs redemption.

I loved the slow pace of the book that seems to speed up near the end as you wait to find out who the murderer is.  The characters are all well developed and you can feel the difficulties of life in the rural countryside of northern Scotland in their actions and words.

One of the main themes of the book is the strict religious ways of all the characters and how much power the town sheriff has. 

There is a Scottish glossary at the back of the book which helps with all the Scottish terms.

All in all a faboulous book.

Scrapbook Sunday #128

Fortunately, I had already made this Love Album for Martyn for Valentine's Day before I got sick.

My husband has been so loving and caring this week. Instead champagne and a wonderful home cooked dinner for Valentines, this year Martyn has spent the entire week doing my school runs, all the cooking and shopping. 

Honestly, if I had been feeling well enough, it would have been the best present ever !!! 

I finished the album with a couple of photos of us, which sounds easy than it was.

This year, we must make more of an effort to get more photos of us together as we seem to have lots with one of us and the kids and not too many of just us. 

 Heureusement, j'avais déjà fait cette album d'amour pour Martyn pour la Saint-Valentin avant que je sois malade.

Mon mari a été si aimante et attentionnée cette semaine. Au lieu champagne et un dîner magnifique fait maison pour la Saint Valentin, cette année, Martyn a passé toute la semaine à faire mes trajets scolaires, toute la cuisine et les courses.
Honnêtement, si j'avais senti assez bien, ça aurait été le plus beau cadeau de ma vie!

J'ai fini l'album avec quelques photos de nous, ce qui semble facile qu'elle ne l'était.
Cette année, nous devons faire plus d'efforts pour obtenir plus de photos de nous ensemble comme nous semblons avoir beaucoup avec l'un de nous et les enfants et pas trop de juste nous.

Scrapbook Sunday # 121

 This is one of the first 'good' photos of me and the boys after Neil's birth. 

He was only about 10 weeks old when we took him back to see the families.

But let's be honest, Graham was still a baby as well, at just 18 months old.

The colours on the photo went so well with the colours of this week's challenges at Fab Friday that I just had to play along.

Il s'agit d'un des premiers «bons» photos de moi et les garçons après la naissance de Neil.
Il n'était que d'environ 10 semaines lorsque nous l'ont ramené voir nos familles.
Mais soyons honnêtes, Graham était encore un bébé aussi, a seulement 18 mois.

Les couleurs de la photo allait si bien avec les couleurs de défi cette semaine à Fab Friday que il fallait que je joue en même temps.

Card Class

After chatting with my ladies on Saturday we have decided that this class should be monthly !!

Après avoir discuté avec mes dames samedi dernier, nous avons décidé que ce cours doit être mensuel !!

These are the cards we made this time, a good selection for everyone.
Ce sont les cartes que nous avons fait cette fois-ci, une bonne sélection pour tout le monde.

Next time we will be making cards for a baby girl, this time just for the boys.
La prochaine fois nous ferons des cartes de naissance pour les filles, car cette fois c'était pour les garçons.

So if you would like to join us the next card class will be on the 3rd of March.

Christmas Bags

I was asked to make some bags for Christmas gifts by a friend. These are the colours she wanted me to use.....there is a little sneaky peak at one of the new papers in the new Mini Catalogue that starts next week !!
She was delighted with them and I hope her family were too.

Une amie m'a demandé de faire des petits sacs pour ses cadeaux de Noël. Voilà les coloris qu'elle a voulu que j'utilise......il y a un petit avant premier ici aussi. Il y a un des nouveaux papiers du Mini Catalogue qui sort la semaine prochaine.
Elle a été ravie avec ces sacs et j'espère que sa famille l'était aussi.

Scrapbook Sunday #74

It's such a joy scrapbooking these Batman photos.
Today's pages are in keeping with my Circus tents of earlier on this week. I guess that these photos were the inspiration behind my tents.
I have done the 'good' tent in bright colours and the 'bad one with a more sombre background.

C'est une telle joie de mettre en pages ces photos de Batman.
Les pages d'aujourd'hui sont en harmonie avec mes tentes de cirque que je vous ai montré plus tôt cette semaine. Je pense que ce sont ces photos qui m'ont données l'inspiration de mes tentes.
J'ai fait la 'bonne' tente dans des coloris vifs et la 'mauvaise' sur un fond plus sombre.

Blue Christmas #1

Thank you for coming back to see today's blue offering.
Today's card uses quite a few of Stampin' Up! blues, the card base is Baja Breeze which I have stamped in the same colour using the Soft Holly wheel to give a delicate background.

Cette carte utilise beaucoup des bleus que Stampin' Up! propose, le fond de carte est Bleu Balkans que j'ai tamponné dans le même coloris avec la roue Soft Holly pour un fond delicat.

Christmas Squares

Wow November already !!!
I know it's an age thing but I can't quite believe how time speeds up as you get older, if you ask my kids how long it is until Christmas I'm sure they would say that it's still ages away.
But as a mum and a crafter I know that all the hard work is done before the day itself.

So here is my first Christmas card that I was inspired to make using the sketch at A la Card Monkey .
I love these Mocha Morning papers and will be using them again very soon.

Woauh c'est déjà Novembre !!!
Je sais que c'est une question d'âge mais je ne peux pas vraiment croire à quel point le temps accélère lorsque l'on vieillit, si vous demandez à mes enfants combien de temps il reste avant Noël, je suis sure qu'ils diraient que c'est encore loin.
Mais pour moi en tant que maman et crafter je sais que tout le travail est fait avant le jour J.

Alors voilà ma première carte de Noël qui m'a été inspiré par le défi de A La Card Monkey.
J'adore ces papiers Spécialité Moccacino et je les réutiliserai à nouveau très bientôt.

Button Bookmarks

My friend, Anita, has just got this set of stamps, Button,Button and asked me if I could give her an idea on how to use them on bookmarks, which she will be doing with her class.
So here are the designs I came up with this afternoon.
For the boys I have used lots of different blues, Baja Breeze, Pool Party, Island Indigo and Not Quite Navy. They are finished off with a Island Indigo ribbon and a In Color spotty brad.
For the girly one I have gone with purples rather than pinks and used Elegant Eggplant, Perfect Plum, Blushing Bride and Wisteria Wonder. This time finished with an Elegant Eggplant scalloped dots ribbon and another In Color brad.

Mon amie, Anita, vient d'obtenir ce jeu de timbres, Button, Button et m'a demandé si je pouvais lui donner une idée sur la façon de les utiliser sur des signets, qu'elle va faire avec sa classe.

Alors, voici les modèles que j'ai créé cet après-midi.

Pour les garçons, j'ai utilisé beaucoup de bleus différents, Bleu Balkans, Piscine Party, Indigo des Îles et Presque Marine. Ils sont finis avec un ruban Indigo des Îles et une attache parisienne dans le nouveau In Color.

Pour les filles j'ai utilisé des violets plutôt que des roses et utilisé Divine Aubergine, Prune Parfaite, Fleur de Cerisier et Galante Glycine. Cette fois-ci je l'ai fini avec un ruban festonné à plumetis en Divine Aubergine et une autre attache parisienne In Color.

One Happy Nephew

After a long wait my nephew finally got his own mini tri fold album, which he was over the moon with.

Après une longue attente mon neveu a enfin son petit album juste pour lui, et il a beaucoup aimé.

I had such fun making this one as he's a little cutie and his pictures just made me laugh. The middle photo was taken as he left the house for his first day of school !!
J'ai eu beaucoup de plaisir à faire cet album parce que mon neveu est si mignon et ses photos m'ont fait rire. La photo du milieu a été prise losqu'il a quitté la maison pour sa première journée d'école !!

April Class

Firstly I would like to apologise to the ladies who came on Saturday afternoon....I forgot to make you a cup of tea !!!! I'm so sorry. When you left I found the chocolate biscuits and groaned, so sorry again !!
Everyone loved the project we made though......phew !!!
This is it, a double tri-fold stutter album.
I've used pictures of my cute nieces as I am so loving Rose Red at the moment. I will do another one with more masculine colours so I can give it to my boys and my nephew.
Promise Declan !!!

Premièrement je dois faire mes excuses aux dames qui sont venues chez moi samedi après-midi........j'ai oublié de vous faire une tasse de thé !!! Quand vous êtes parties j'ai retrouvé les biscuits au chocolat et je gémissais, alors je m'excuse encore !!
Heureusement tout le monde a adoré le projet.....ouf !!!

Voilà ce que nous avons fait, un album double tri-fold.
J'ai pris les photos de mes nièces car en ce moment j'adore tellement Rose Rouge. J'en ferai un autre dans les tons plus masculins bientôt pour mes garçons et mon neveu.
