Artful Readers Club June 2013

Another month seems to have passed so quickly and I'm back with another review for the

 Artful Readers Club.

This month I read For Whom The Bells Toll by Ernest Hemingway.

We picked up this book while holidaying in Key West last summer (best holiday ever !!!!) and we visited Hemingway's home.

I really wasn't looking forward to reading it as Martyn read it first and said that it was one of the most boring books he has ever read. So it did take me two attempts to start, first time was right at he start of the year and I only got to chapter 5,but I decided to bite the bullet and finished it as I didn't want it hanging over me until December.

Surprisingly, I love it!!

The main plot is of Robert Jordan's work to help the Spanish resistance blow up a bridge to stop the fascist movement, but I was caught up in the love story between Jordan and Maria. I particularly like when Jordan went off into his dreamworld of how things would be after the war was over and the communists won.

Sometimes it felt that the main story was a little lost in the memories of Pablo and what happened in his village before the war but I admired his strong minded wife Pilar (or the 'woman of Pablo', as she often refered to) who seemed to be the only person who could keep him under control.

The narrative writing style was a bit difficult to get into at the start but I soon enjoyed the flow once the love story was brought in.

I'm glad that I did read it and will probably read most Hemingway in the future.

Shiny Shell

Fortunately, there are some of the sets I own still carrying on into the new Annual catalogue and the By The Tide is one of them, phew !!

But the easy to use Glossy paper isn't :-(

 Heureusement, il existe quelques-uns des sets je possède encore exerçant dans le nouveau catalogue annuel et By The Tide est l'un d'eux, ouf!

Mais le facile à utiliser Papier glacé n'est pas :-(

Word Play will definitely be the set I am most sad to see go.

Less Is More #125

Today is Jen's Birthday, Jen is one of the lovely designers for the Less is More challenge.

So this week's challenge is to make Jen a birthday card.

Happy Birthday Jen !!

Jen does mention that she likes cats, fish or butterflies, so I have made her a card using butterflies,

and as you know, the ladies at Less is More love white space, so there is lots here.

I would also like to say a big Happy Birthday to my niece, Ellie, as it's her birthday today as well.

Aujourd'hui, c'est l'anniversaire de Jen, Jen est une des belles designers pour le défi de Less is More.
Donc, le défi de cette semaine est de faire une carte d'anniversaire pour Jen.
Joyeux anniversaire Jen !!

Jen nous a dit qu'elle aime bien les chats, les poissons ou les papillons, donc je lui ai fait une carte en utilisant les papillons,
et comme vous le savez, les dames de Less is More aiment l'espace blanc, donc il y a beaucoup ici.

Je voudrais aussi dire un grand Joyeux Anniversaire à ma nièce, Ellie, car c'est aussi son anniversaire aujourd'hui.

Not Quite Navy and River Rock are both retiring as well as both of these stamps sets too,

Less is More #124

This week's challenge on Less is More is Hexagons.

Now, I don't know why, but I had a bit of a feeling that this week's challenge would be hexagons on the day that I let one of my downline borrow my hexagon embossing folder !!

So I asked my mathematician husband to draw my a template to make a card and off I went to craft.

He doesn't know that I have turned his hexagon into a Fathers Day Card for him.

Hope he likes it.

Le défi de cette semaine sur Less is More est Les hexagones.

Maintenant, je ne sais pas pourquoi, mais j'ai eu un peu d'un impression que le défi de cette semaine serait hexagones la même journée que je laisse un de mes filleules emprunter mon plioir de gaufrage hexagone !!

J'ai donc demandé à mon mari mathématiciende me dessiner un modèle pour faire une carte et je suis partie créer.

Il ne sait pas que j'ai tourné son hexagone dans une carte de fête des pères pour lui.

J'espère qu'il aime.

Glittery Butterfly

This is a quick card that we made in class last month.

We used Versamark then Rich Razzleberry to stamp the Swallowtail before heat embossing with clear embossing powder. This made it easier to add the extra glitter to the body and wing details.

All the scalloped ribbons are now on the Retired List, so if you would like some then don't forget to order before they sell out.

C'est une carte rapide que nous avons fait en classe le mois dernier.

Nous avons utilisé Versamark puis Fruits des Bois pour tamponner le papillon avant de embosser à chaud avec de la poudre à embosser transparente.C'était donc plus facile d'ajouter des paillettes supplémentaire pour le corps et les détails de l'aile.

Tous les rubans festonnés sont maintenant sur la liste de produits retraité, donc si vous en voulez quelques uns alors ne pas oublier de commander avant qu'ils sont partis.

Sunny Challenges #81

I feel very lucky this week, not only did my last Scrapbook Sunday page get voted as the Ray of Sunshine over at Sunny Challenges but the ladies have also asked my to be their guest designer too !!

The challenge is to use something from the Spring/Summer catalogue - how easy is that !!

I mean, with all the beautiful stamp sets, papers and embellishments on offer, the hardest part was choosing which products to use.

In the end, I used the Oh, Hello stamp set and the pretty Melon Mambo ribbon.

To keep the rest of the card bright I used Daffodil Delight and Pacific Point.

Je me sens très chanceuse cette semaine, non seulement ma dernière page de Scrapbook Sunday est prise comme leur Rayon de Soleil sur Sunny Challenges, mais les dames ont également demandé à mon être leur designer invité aussi !!

Le défi est d'utiliser quelque chose du catalogue printemps / été - comme c'est facile ça!

Je veux dire, avec tous les beaux ensembles de tampons, papiers et des embellissements, la partie la plus difficile a été de choisir les produits à utiliser.

En fin de compte, j'ai utilisé les tampons Oh, Hello et le joli ruban Melon Mambo.

Pour garder le reste de la carte lumineuse j'ai utilisé Narcisse délice et Pointe Pacifique.

Male Birthday Card

As we all know, making mens cards can be a real brain teaser.

But this quick and easy folded shirt would be perfect for birthdays and Fathers Day cards.

The little paper pack in the Spring/Summer catalogue is just the right size to make these shirts.

Comme nous le savons tous, la fabrication de cartes hommes peut être un véritable casse-tête.

Mais ce rapide et facile chemise pliées, ce serait parfait pour les anniversaires et le Fêtes des Pères.

Le petit lot de papier dans le catalogue printemps / été est juste la bonne taille pour faire ces chemises.

Birthday Boy

Today is Graham's birthday.

So I made him a card using his favourite activity, archery, as my idea.

Alors je lui ai fait une carte en utilisant son sport préféré, le tir à l'arc, pour trouver mon idée.

Patchwork

So after lots of sewing, my patchwork is ready to start quilting.

I can't believe how big this project is compared to the first one I completed.

It has only taken me a month to do all this, but now I'm wondering how long the quilting will take AND

now that the weather seems to be improving - how warm will it be with this on my knees !!

Ainsi, après beaucoup de couture, patchwork mon est prêt à commencer quilting.

Je ne peux pas croire à quel point ce projet est grande par rapport à la première que j'ai terminé.

Ca m'a seulement pris un mois pour faire tout cela, 

mais maintenant je me demande combien de temps la quilting prendra 

 ET
maintenant que le temps semble s'améliorer - il va faire vraiment chaud avec cela sur mes genoux !!

 

This is the back, which is mostly black, but I thought it gives Graham two choices.

 C'est le dos, ce qui est principalement noir, mais j'ai pensé qu'il donne Graham deux choix.

Celebrating 25 Years

As Stampin' Up! celebrates it's 25th Anniversary,

it's a great to look back at favourite stamps that have been and gone over the years.

So from now until October Stampin' Up! are releasing sets of favourite stamps 

and this month it's the Best of Flowers

These sets of special stamps will be available until March 2014, but only while stocks last.

These 5 stamps are available until the end of August.

some are from bigger sets but most are special one off stamps for every occasion.

In Love With Stampng Last Chance Blog Hop

I'm starting with the product line that I will miss the most - the fabrics.

I made up a few more wine glass holders- well, you can never have enough wine, right !!!

Not all the fabric is reduced but some packs have30 % or 40% off, so don't miss out.

Je commence avec la gamme de produits qui va me manquer le plus - les tissus.
J'ai fait un peu plus de dessous de verre, eh bien,  

vous ne pouvez jamais avoir assez de vin, n'est pas !!!
Pas tous les tissus sont réduites, mais certains lots ont 30% ou 40% de remise, il ne faut pas manquer.

Next, is my favourite stamp set, Word Play.

 We only had this set for a year but, I have used it lots and I will really miss it.

Ensuite, c'est mon set de tampons préféré Word Play.
Nous n'avions que cet ensemble pendant un an mais, j'ai utilisé beaucoup et il va vraiment me manquer.

And finally, my last card uses the Twitterpated DSP which I have really enjoyed using as it was great for both male and female cards. I have also used Riding Hood Red and Baja Breeze, two of the colours that are retiring too.

Et enfin, ma dernière carte utilise le DSP Roses En Liberty que j'ai vraiment apprécié utiliser comme c'était super pour les deux cartes masculins et féminins. J'ai aussi utilisé Rouge Capulet et Bleu Balkans, deux des couleurs qui prennent leur retraite également.
