TV Inspired

Every one has their own guilty pleasure on TV. I will admit to watching all sorts of rubbish programmes and it doesn't bother me. 

But one programme that Martyn and I watch together (and love) is University Challenge.

I couple of weeks ago I noticed that one of the shapes in the title sequence was the same as one of the stamps in this year's Sale-A-Bration sets - Madison Avenue.

I quickly wrote myself a note to make a card that was inspired by the show and here it is...

I also used Postage Due and The Open Sea to create the wording. I heat embossed the stamps with white embossing powder then I coloured over the top using the Stamping Sponges and Daffodil Delight and Elegant Eggplant inks. These are the colours used in the programme.

I love the effect and I am going to try some more colour combinations as well.

Chacun a son propre plaisir coupable à la télévision. Je dois admettre de regarder toutes sortes de programmes nulles et ça ne me dérange pas.

Mais un l'émission que Martyn et moi regardons en même temps (et l'adore) est l'University Challenge.

Il y a quelques semaines, j'ai remarqué que l'une des formes de la séquence titre était le même que celui des tampons dans la Sale-A-Bration cette année - Madison Avenue.

Je me suis vite écrit ue pense-bête pour faire une carte qui a été inspiré par l'émission et c'est ici ...

J'ai aussi utilisé Postage Due et The Open Sea pour créer le texte. J'ai chauffé en relief les tampons avec la poudre à embosser blanche, puis j'ai colorié sur le dessus à l'aide des Stamping Sponges et encreurs Narcisse Délice et Aubergine Divine. Ce sont les couleurs utilisées dans l'emission.

J'adore l'effet et je vais essayer encore quelques combinaisons de couleurs.

Love 3D Frame

As you know, I'm not very 'hearts' in my cards and scrapbook page - but with the arrival of the new Spring/Summer catalogue - I have to admit I have gone mad for them !!!

I love all the new papers, embellishments, stamps and dies that you will be able to buy from Friday.

I think I may have used all of them in this 3d Frame that I made.

i will be placing an order on Friday morning, if you would like anything ordered then I will offer free P & P to orders that can be collected from me.

 Comme vous le savez, je ne suis pas très «cœur» dans mes cartes et pages d'album - mais avec l'arrivée du nouveau catalogue printemps / été - je dois admettre que j'ai perdu la raison pour eux!

J'aime tous les nouveaux papiers, embellissements, des tampons et des dies que vous pourrez en acheter à partir de vendredi.

Je pense que j'ai peut-être tous utilisés dans ce cadre 3d que j'ai fait.

Love Swaps

 This was my final set of swaps for training.

I don't know about you but I get bored quite quickly when I make the same card over and over,

which is why I made 3 sets of 9.

This set uses the new More Amore Designer Series paper and a great new stamp and die set called

Hearts A Flutter. And my greetings were both taken from Sale-A-Bration sets.

 C'était ma dernière série de swaps pour la formation.

Je ne sais pas pour vous mais je m'ennuie assez vite quand je fais la même carte à plusieurs reprises, c'est pourquoi j'ai fait 3 séries de 9.

Cet ensemble utilise le nouveau papier de la Design Série Amour Tous Les jours et un nouveau set de tampons avec des Framelits assortis et appelé Hearts A Flutter. Et mes voeux ont été prises des sets de la Sale-A-Bration.

Patchwork Bag Tutorial

 OK, lots of photos today.

I am sharing the tutorial for the patchwork bag that I showed you earlier in the week.

Je partage le tutoriel pour le sac patchwork que je vous ai montré plus tôt dans la semaine.

 

Start with 2 square pieces of fabric.

I have made a slightly smaller one this time, but the others were made with a piece of Stampin' Up! fabric which I folded into a triangle and cut to make the square. 

Démarrer avec 2 carrés de tissu.
J'ai fait un peu plus petite cette fois, mais les autres ont été faites avec un morceau de Stampin 'Up! tissu que j'ai plié en triangle et couper pour faire le carré.

Place the two pieces together with the patterned side on the inside.

And sew together leaving a 10 cm gap on one side. 

Placez les deux morceaux ensemble avec le côté motif sur l'intérieur.
Et cousez-les ensemble en laissant un espace de 10 cm sur un côté.

 

Turn the fabric the right way round.

 Tournez le tissu dans le bon sens

 

Sew the gap to complete the square.

 Coudre l'espace pour compléter le carré.

 Fold into a triangle and mark the fabric into three equal pieces.

 Plier en triangle et marquer le tissu en trois parties égales.

I use a material pen to trace a line to follow with my sewing machine.

 J'utilise un stylo tissu pour tracer une ligne à suivre avec ma machine à coudre.

 

 

Pin the side triangles up. And turn the bag inside out.

 Epingler les triangles latéraux en place. Et retourner le sac.

Now fold the bag to get the above shape.

Maintenant, pliez le sac pour obtenir le forme ci-dessus.

 Mark the corners at 6.5cm (for a full sized bag)

This will give you a square base when you turn the bag round again

  Marquez les angles à 6.5cm (pour un sac plein taille)

 Cela vous donnera une base carrée lorsque vous tournez la ronde sac de nouveau

Pin the sides and the top triangle to hold in place and sew round the top of the bag at 1.5cm to create the rim.

 Epingler les côtés et le triangle supérieur pour tenir en place et coudre autour de la partie supérieure du sac à 1,5 cm pour créer la jante.

 

Finish the bag by sewing some buttons to decorate the triangles.

Terminer le sac en cousant des boutons pour décorer les triangles.

 You need two lengths of ribbon and then thread in opposite directions using a safety pin.

 Vous avez besoin de deux longueurs de ruban, puis, de fil en sens inverse à l'aide d'une épingle de sûreté.

 

Your bag is now finished !!

Votre sac est maintenant terminé!

Artful Readers Club January 2013

Welcome to the first monthly Artful Readers Club, organised by the lovely Darcy.
 

My first book of the year is To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee.

And to be honest, the reason I picked it for this challenge is not because I ever thought I was missing out on a great piece of fiction (although it really is !!) but because my son has to read it for school.

Just before the Christmas holidays when we was clearing out his bag one evening, I saw this book on the table and read the summary on the back cover and I have to admit I was surprised about the subject and that my son is only 13 years old.

My husband tells me that the book has been on the GCSE reading list for years, but it was never a book that we had to study in Scotland. I thought that the subject matter would be too difficult to explaining to a group of 13 year olds. But it is such a beautifully written story told through the eyes of a young girl who is just starting school at the beginning of the story.

Scout and Jem Fitch are the two young children of Atticus, who live in Maycomb county in Alabama in the mid 1930s, and this book follows their lives over a 3 year period where Atticus' job as a lawyer has an impact of the quiet lives they all lead, when he defends a black man accused of raping a white girl.

Scout is a real little tomboy and like nothing better than getting in fist fights with her comrades.She doesn't wear pretty little dresses, much to her Aunt's horror.
Jem is a young boy who we see grow into a young man full of youthful convictions.
Both love spending their summers with their next door neighbour's nephew and trying to sneak a peek at the Radley household, which is the next door neighbours house, but no-one ever comes out during the day.

I think that the main thing that struck me about this book, is the huge divide in racial tensions.

I think that as a Western European that we have never had to deal with such problems and I wonder why people find it so difficult to live in harmony.

 For my artwork, I will be doing a title page and a scene from each book,
that I will be keeping in a little 6 x 6 scrapbook that I have.

This month's art is what I image the square outside the courtroom to look like.
